What do you want to discuss over a good cup of coffee? Here is where you can do that. But sometimes an old crusty master sergeant and professor wants to have his way.

Emergency planning 2

S'more on the subject of EP. There is a video series focusing on lessons learned of flight 232, the DC-10 that crashed in Iowa. They for a long time had one video, but added #2 which goes into detail of the recovey, mental recovery of the workers. Very interesting and no matter the type of emergency, every planner must see the series and use it in planning for what might happen.

Emergency planning

The events of Katrina have highlighted a lot of issues regarding EP. I was discussing the events and it was mentioned that the cell phones were no working and communication was limited. The police chief was using runners, etc.
Ok, prof, what would have done? Besides the obivous, in my EP I would have have the numbers to every ham operator in the coomunity. What, that is so outdated. Options? Sat phones. Ok, and your budget can handle that?
Every seminar that I have led on EP I discuss some of the issues of regarding comm. If an airplane crashes, do you have good comm? If you have another 9/11, do you have good comm? Another way to put it, have you accomplished a thorough risk analysis? RA is more than assessing what could do immediate physical harm but the latent events that are over looked that could have a serious affect on the operation.
So rally the hams and get comm.
